Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion, like the Obagi blue peel and other exfoliants, stimulates skin growth by taking off the top layers of skin cells. The dermis, or deep layer of the skin, regularly creates new layers of skin cells and p
ushes them upward, where they are stacked together as the layers of the epidermis. These cells are not technically alive anymore, but they don’t have to be in order to form a layered barrier against extreme temperatures and foreign substances. The dermis only goes into the skin production cycle again when this epidermal barrier gets a layer or two too thin, and this is where microdermabrasion comes in.
Microdermabrasion uses small exfoliating particles to “sandblast” the treated areas of skin, our high-tech machine both shooting out the particles and vacuuming them up at the same time. Our trained technicians work their way evenly over the areas of skin to be treated, gently removing the tattered outer layers of skin and signaling the dermis to begin production again. The treatment with our medical grade microdermabrasion unit is painless and quick, usually taking only a quarter to half an hour, and it requires no recovery time. You can come in for a treatment and go right back to work, or go right out on the town.
Microdermabrasion is also used to address scar tissue (including scars from acne), wrinkled skin, blemishes from sun exposure or overactive pigment, and other skin tone issues such as uneven wearing of the skin. Several treatment sessions may be needed for best results, depending on the nature and scope of the desired solution, and microdermabrasion works even better when used alongside other treatments that target the dermis, such as thermage.
