Karen Buckalew, MN, ARNP-C, PLNC, COHN-S

Karen Buckalew, a native of Lakeland, is True MD’s resident Nurse Practitioner. Her focus is a holistic approach to health that has regard for every aspect of our lives: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Skin, an often neglected component of our physical lives and the largest organ of our bodies, is a subject Karen is especially passionate about. To educate her patients on proper skin care, she has developed a method called the Health, Education, and Learning (HEAL) approach. This approach utilizes the learning method best suited to the patient so that they can understand their own skin type, how it works, and the nature of their particular skin problem. With that foundation of understanding, Karen can then recommend certain skin care products and treatments, informing the patient on how each product works and the effects they can expect from them. “What I don’t want to do,” she says, “is give the patient a skin care product or treatment and just send them on their way.”

Helping people enhance the unique physical features God has already given them is Karen’s mission. Her patients appreciate her approachability and friendly professionalism. She is known as a strong, compassionate patient advocate. “Everyone deserves healthy skin, women and men alike,” Karen says. Karen is a native of Lakeland. She graduated from Florida State University with a Master of Science in Nursing, and is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is certified as both a Professional Legal Nurse Consultant and an Occupational Health Nurse Specialist. Karen has practiced in health care since 1992, serving at the Tallahassee Memorial Health Care Center in Tallahassee, Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast in Destin, and at Florida Hospital in Orlando. She has worked in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, and Urgent Care as well as Aesthetic Medicine, and has practiced in cardiology and oncology.
