The Laser Hair Removal Alternative

Though laser hair removal is still widely practiced, True MD uses an IPL (intense pulsed light)Laser Hair Removal device that permanently removes unwanted hair follicles while eliminating pain and the possibility of user error.  Because a laser delivers all of its energy in a very short blast, laser hair removal sometimes can cause burns and scarring, and almost three out of four patients need topical anesthesia when undergoing this procedure.  IPL devices, on the other hand, deliver the same amount of heat energy to the follicle, but with less intensity over a longer period of time.  The result is a safer procedure that only gives the patient a brief "snapping" sensation.

IPL devices, like lasers, focus heat energy (through light) on the capillaries that feed unwanted hair follicles, cauterizing the blood vessel and permanently shutting the follicle down.  Those are hairs that will never have to be plucked again.

Because the effectiveness of the procedure depends on the absorption of light and heat by the melanin in the hair follicle (instead of the skin), dark hairs in light-skinned people are the easiest to remove.  The melanin in darker skin absorbs some of the light before it gets to the hair follicle, and blond, gray, and white hairs don't absorb much heat.  Though this does make treatment more difficult, an IPL procedure is more effective than lasers even in these cases.

Of course, not all your hairs are actively growing at all times, only about a third of them.  Because hair growth is so cyclical-and because light-based hair removal only works when the hair is actively growing-you will need multiple treatments (5-7) spaced out 6-8 weeks apart to completely eliminate all unwanted hair.  Our aesthetic physicians will help you ascertain your particular hair-growth cycle and the number and duration of the appointments necessary to achieve your hair-removal goals.

Though side effects such as skin redness, burns, scarring, and resistant hairs are possible, True MD's expertise and state-of-the-art equipment make such complications rare.  If you would like to be permanently free of unwanted hair-and you're tired of shaving and plucking-make an appointment with our professionals at True MD.  We can safely and permanently set you free!
