Wrinkles
When wrinkles start showing up at the corners of the eyes or like parentheses around the mouth, we stare at the mirror in shock and dismay because those folds of skin are supposed to tell us that we’re “old”—and we’re not ready to be old yet. Though it’s true that our skin’s elasticity does break down some as we age, wrinkles are more often a sign of damaged skin and damaging facial habits, all of which can be countered with a number of breakthrough procedures offered by True MD.
The root causes of wrinkles fall into two categories—one, we often “fold” our skin too much and, two, we damage our skin through exposure and neglect.
Every time we smile, frown, or squint, the fine muscles of the face pull our skin into folds, and just like our mothers used to say, if we make that face often enough it will eventually stay that way. This first cause of wrinkles can’t be fully stopped unless we stop making all facial expression. Similarly, if we sleep on our face or side, the skin can be scrunched up for hours at a time, creating other unattractive folds of skin. Though sleeping on our backs will help, we can’t always stay that way once sleep overtakes us. What can be done for these situations? Many places on the face can be treated with a series of Botox injections to give certain facial muscles a “vacation,” allowing the skin to smooth out again.
In addition, a regular regimen of exfoliation procedures, including microdermabrasion and chemical peels, can remove unneeded layers of dead, folded skin while encouraging deep new skin growth to fill out the crease. For wrinkles that are embedded deep in the skin, True MD can inject long-lasting fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. Though not all wrinkles can be fully erased, a good many can be, and even the deepest wrinkles can be softened to take years off your face.
Wrinkles take hold more easily, however, in skin that is no longer vibrant and growing, skin that has been pummeled by sun and wind and thinned by age. Though True MD cannot fully reverse the aging process, our cutting-edge medical techniques such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Thermage stimulate the natural restorative potential of your skin, causing your skin to outgrow and slough off the dead and damaged skin cells that fold easily into wrinkles.
Of course, these different treatments work best when used to complement one another in a comprehensive treatment plan that is focused on your individual skin and desired effect. Set up an appointment with one of True MD’s aesthetic physicians to discuss the best treatment plan for your skin. You only get one face in life, but True MD can help you make it look younger longer.
