Botox Myths & Facts

Botox was first introduced to the general public in 2002, when the FDA gave this wrinkle treatment its approval for cosmetic use. Since then, over one million people have received these injections to help defer the signs of aging. There are several myths about Botox and below you’ll find more information to help you decide if it is right for you.

Myth #1:Botox Cosmetic is not safe and there is not enough is known about it. This product has received approval from the FDA and has been used for almost a decade to help men and women reduce dynamic wrinkles in their faces, resulting in a more youthful appearance. It is one of the most common cosmetic procedures today and one of the most popular among celebrities.

Myth #2: It will leave you with a frozen face or an unnatural, “startled” look. This is one of the most common misconceptions about these wrinkle injections. When the procedure is done properly, there are enough of the facial muscles that are not treated to allow for normal expressions. This is one reason it is imperative to only visit a physician that is trained in Botox injections.

Myth #3: There are anti-wrinkle treatment creams that are better. The anti-wrinkle treatment creams that are available today are not as effective and the results do not last as long. Many of the creams require weeks, even months, of use in order to see even minimal results.

Myth #4: It’s a filler. Botox is not a filler. While there are several fillers available on the market today, Botox works by inhibiting certain facial muscles from contracting, creating a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

Myth #5: It’s just too expensive. Botox wrinkle treatment is not expensive, especially when compared to the costs of creams and lotions that must be used daily. Additionally, since the results last for up to four months, the cost of these injections is very affordable.

While several people still question if this is right type of cosmetic procedure for them, it certainly has many advantages. Botox is a quick procedure. There is no need for risky cosmetic surgery and it is exceptionally effective for crow’s feet and frown lines.

You may experience a little pain and discolorations at the injection sites but this is gone within 24 hours. The full results of the treatment are apparent around three days after the injections and last for three to four months. At TrueMD, we look forward to dispelling the many myths surrounding Botox.
