Botox

As we age, our skin naturally starts to lose some of its elasticity, especially when it is folded the same way again and again over many years. These folds of skin, known as “dynamic wrinkles,” lurk between our eyebrows or at the corners of our eyes, giving our face a permanentlyBotox Lady uptight expression—or just betraying our age! However, thanks to medical advances in muscle relaxers like Botox, you can choose what “aging gracefully” means to your face.

Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A) has an incredibly safe track record, spanning over a decade of heavy use and impacting over one million patients. Hundreds of scientific studies have evaluated the procedure, finding no systemic complications with the injections (which is more than can be said for the surgical cutting of facial muscles, an older technique).

How does Botox work? Trained physicians inject a very small amount of Botox into the specific facial muscles that cause the dynamic wrinkles. Botox slowly takes effect over 3-10 days, limiting those muscles’ ability to contract and leaving the muscles relaxed and the skin smooth for a period of 3-5 months. The most commonly treated areas are the “frown lines” between and above the eyebrows and the “crows’ feet” at the corners of the eyes, but enough of the facial muscles are left untreated that you will be able to smile, frown and make other facial expressions quite normally.

After one round of treatment wears off, treating the same problem areas with Botox again and again improves the effect and permanency of the treatment by weakening those muscles that insist on folding your skin into unsightly wrinkles.

At True MD, all Botox injections are given by trained, certified and experienced physicians, not nurses or other stand-ins, because your safety and satisfaction is our number one priority. In fact, True MD’s aesthetic physicians have handled such a large number of Botox patients over the years, and are so efficient at what they do, that True MD is able to keep the cost down significantly, charging only for the amount of Botox actually used. Our physicians’ expertise also keeps the procedure brief—a few minutes only—and fairly painless.
